Buying produce that is at season’s peak will not only get you the freshest produce available, but it will also be at the lowest price.  Here’s a way to always know what’s in season.

Publix offers a service called “At Season’s Peak”.  You can sign up for alerts and be notified what produce is currently at season’s peak and therefore at it’s lowest prices. You can choose to receive alerts about all produce or only your favorites.  You can also choose to be notified by email or text message.

Not only is this a useful tool for shopping in grocery stores, but also at local Farmer’s Markets. If you know what is plentiful, you can get the best deal!

Florida Seedless Watermelon is at Season’s Peak now!  Watch for some of the lowest prices of the year in the coming weeks!  Make the most of your food budget by incorporating fresh Seedless Watermelon in recipes.

If you saw my shopping trip last week, you would see a savings of 58%, I spent $111. I mentioned in that post that things usually even out, and this week I only spent $25! Also, neither post demonstrated an adequate amount of Veggies and Meat that we consume in a week. That is because I purchase our meat once a month at a meat market (lately I’ve been buying it at Good Earth Foods in Tampa, but you might use Zaycon like Melisha does). I buy my produce at a local produce stand. So what you see here is adding to my current stockpile. It is realistic for a family of six. While I prefer healthy foods and check ingredients, I do allow those Doritos snacks in moderation. This is realistic and doable!
