Shopping Trip Time! (an ongoing series)

It is time to shop again! Remember how I told you that some weeks I don’t really buy that much? This is one of those weeks. I really only needed two items to shop for, the soup and peanut butter. But I couldn’t pass up the FREE Sun Drop deal (that was a secret pleasure from my childhood summers). And I knew that Sominex was a possible overage to help pay for the soup. This trip was actually at two different stores. So many stores seemed to be out of Sun Drop (call ahead and ask your store)! Because I didn’t spend much at the grocery store, I plan to go to the produce stand this weekend. Here’s what I got at Publix:

    (8) Peter Pan Peanut Butter (two different stores) = BOGO $2.75 ($1.37 each)
Used (4) $1/2 Peter Pan Peanut, Publix Coupon Stock Up For Summer Savings Book. (I was so excited when the cust service desk handed me 2 of these!! At each store…)  = $0.38 each = $3.00
    (9) Sundrop 2 Liter Soda (two different stores)
    = 2/$3 ($1.50 each)
Used: (3) B2G1 7UP, A&W, Sun Drop, Sunkist, Canada Dry, RC Cola or Diet Rite 2 L, Publix Yellow Adv Flyer

Also Used: (9) $1/1 Sundrop 2L soda MQ found in SS 5/6 (hurry, MQ expires on 6/3) = Free
    (4) Sominex Sleep Aid $3.19
Used (2) $5/2 Oscal, Citrucel, Ecotrin, Tagamet, Debrox, Gaviscon, Phazyme, Sominex or Gly-Oxide Product, Publix Green Adv Flyer (tonight is last night to use this!!)
Also Used: (4) $1/1 Tagamet, Gavicon, Phazyme, Sominex, Nytol etc. from RP 5/6 = $1.24 overage
    (22) Progresso Soup (remember, we have a big family, bought at two different stores though) 4/$6.00 ($1.50 each)
Used: (16) $1/1 Progresso Soup Publix Store coupon, found on “Running Out” In-Store Display (Expires tomorrow, Sat 6/2!)
I didn’t feel comfortable using a coupon on every item here because we were purchasing so many items, so we used (16 Qs on 22 items) = $0.77 each = $17.00

    Grocery Grand Total: $105.30
Used (1) Winn Dixie $5/$30 from Enjoy the City Booklet Competitor Coupon

    Final Outcome:
Total # of Items: 39 (excluded the Sominex)        Spent OOP: $18.76       Total Saved: $86.54
    Savings: 82%
       Price per item: $0.48

**Special Note:** I only cut TWO coupons (the Sun Drop & Sominex, both in 5/6), the rest of the coupons used were already INSIDE THE STORE!! But knowing that they were there…that is the “Expert” Trick!! If you really wanted to be extra prepared…you could cut your Green and Yellow Adv coupons too!

Yep…type-o!! I paid $7 for the 8 jars of peanut butter!! I missed it when I re-calculated because I hadn’t subtract the $5/$30! Still spent $18.76 total :) Thank you so much!

Sundrop is tricky, For each (3) you buy, use (1) B2 G1 free store coupon, that takes off $1.50. You are then left with $3.00 still in product (2 bottles, $1.50 each). You “stack” to use (3) $1/1 MQs to take $3 off, and all are free! Happy Dance Time!
      Hope that makes more sense!

I a newbie…I did the Peanut Butter Deal and mine came out to $7.00/8 jars = .83 ea.  Am I missing something?

    • Dburrus34

Kati, the addition is wrong on the peanut butter…….seems like each jar would have cost you closer to  .85 – .87 a piece, not .38

I am confused about the Sun drop deal.  It seems like two of the sodas would total $0.50 each with the coupons.  I understand one 2 L soda is free.  Would someone please explain this to me?  I am probably the only one confused by this.
