Shopping Trip Time! 10 Items Under $3 Total! (YOU CAN DO THIS!!)

May 8, 2012 · 20 comments

Melissa sent us this photo on Facebook!
She spent $2.82 total…for everything!

Here’s how she explains the savings:

Banquet Sausage- I used (2) of the $2.00 off Frozen Food coupons from the Sunday paper (Tampa area got these), so they were FREE. I also used (1) 25 cent off Sausage coupon found on the Banquet frozen food box. That made it a 25 cent money maker after stacking the coupons.

3 bottles of soda after stacked coupons they were .22 cents MM for each.

Eggo Pancakes BOGO- Used a $.75/1 coupon and (1) $2.00 off Frozen Food store coupon making this a $0.25 cent money maker.

2 cans of shaving gel for $4.00- Used (2) $0.55/1 coupons making that 2.90.

After my other overages my order total was $1.78. Taxes were $0.84. Grand total $2.62.

Vendor coupons total $3.75
Store Coupons $11.00
Special price savings $8.92
Total saved 23.67 for a 90% Savings!”

Great job, Melissa, and thank you for sharing your shopping trip with us!

My son and I both go in the store, I give him the money for his transaction, then he and I both go to different lanes. then the rest of the coupons I use when I pass the store on my way home from work. I did have one cashier tell me that she would let us use 2 coupons because she was a easy cashier. Which was very nice of her.

One last thought, I have seen both sides of this issue. Using it conservatively is our stand. The customer above bought 4 frozen items, she only used 3 coupons so that shows a caution in overuse. I wish I knew who you were talking about that was shopping, all of the TrueCouponing Speakers are my personal friends and are very conservative when using their coupons. We are very cautious about the coupon usage, TrueCouponing has corporate relationships at stake, as well as the benefit of couponing for my own personal family. We would never want to jeopardize that!! I’m sorry if you have taken this shopping trip the wrong way and hope you can see past this regarding our ministry.  Humbly, Kati

Thanks, Kati. As I said above, I am a couponer myself, and I rely on this website to help me find my match-ups. Part of the reason I go here is because the charter of the group is supposedly to do this without doing anything underhanded. As a Christian it does concern me that there is an appearance of impropriety… and as I said above, I want to honor the spirit of the offers so that they aren’t discontinued due to stores being “taken” for all they are worth by unscrupulous couponers.

The coupon clearly states “one per customer”. If you feel 100% good and moral about abusing or skirting the stated intent of the coupon, either by taking advantage of the largesse of an individual store, or by dragging in your entire family to each get two bucks worth of goods, then that is between you and your conscience.

I am all for legitimate couponing, and I do it myself. But the people who do the sort of thing that is being featured here are the ones who are going to ultimately screw it up for everyone else. A few weeks ago, I saw a woman with her husband and 5 children, each holding two $2 packages of deli meat, haggling with the store manager angrily, essentially bullying him into letting them walk out with their $28 worth of deli meat. Those people obviously stood back at the deli and asked for all those packages to be sliced and bagged at $2 each, so they could get them for free. Fourteen packages of deli meat. Another customer told me that this seething, angry woman was the teacher of a local true couponing class. Do you think THIS is what Publix envisioned when they placed that ad? I doubt it!

Oh Melanie! I am so sorry you were offended by this posting! We preach coupon ethics so consistently, and have a great relationship with Corporate Publix, we would never want any misconception to occur! There were only (3) Frozen food coupons used, and as long as you have (3) customers along for the purchase, there is no usage problem! This was an inspiring small scale shopping trip that was meant to encourage those readers who feel that couponing is overwhelming and hard to do! 10 items, with $3 spent is a quick savings trip that everyone can do! I hope this clarifies my hearts intent. ~Kati

Someone is an angry Publix employee.

I also have four Publix that I use, each one varies some what but not by much. Attacking true couponing and its Chritian stand just because you don’t agree with some thing is wrong. Melanie your facts are not right and your statement unfair, true couponing has helped many poor families learn how to feed them selves better and still save money. My fmaily being one.

  • Des

Coupon policies are different per each Publix store. Also it is up to the managers discretion as to what they will do at their store. My Publix will let you use two per transaction and as long as you come through the line not loaded down and in order they will let you do multiple transactions as well. There was not a violation here, each manager runs their store different and our store knows that they save time by letting you take care of your transactions all at once so you are not coming back and fourth multiple times.

Melanie, your statement is inaccurate and insulting. You should get your facts straight before attacking anyone. Truecouponing has helped many people (myself included) learn how to save money by couponing and they always encourage giving back. You obviously do not understand the process. I don’t see where there was any violation of the terms stated on the coupons. What was done is completely legit! The Publix that I shop at allows stacking a manufacturere’s coupon with a store coupon. If I am purchasing more than one of those items I will have my child or husband make the second purchase. No harm in that! Absolutely nothing deceitful or dishonest being done her.

Ok coupon police its annoying when people accuse you of something! If every Publix would be on board with wording on coupons it’d make life easier on the customers when you have mongrel employees like Anita. Every Publix is different and every cashier is different its just that plain and simple.

“You can do this!” if you’re willing to violate the terms stated on the coupon. Personally, I don’t understand why Trucouponing, which claims to be a Christian organization first and foremost, would feature this story.

Are you saying we can use more than one 2/2 per transaction? I had to keep making multiple visits and then just stopped doing it because it made no sense with gas….

  • Anitasells

This week is $2 of any bakery purchase

  • Anitasells

You can use at different times and days…you can have hubby and kids each use one.

  • Anitasells

What Publix do you shop at! I work for Publix…that is a direct corporate violation!

  • mel

Won’t take more than one coupon per person at my publix

  • Barbsab88

The coupons for 2/2 frozen say one per customer. I have 8 from all my newspaper but they say one per person. How did you use more than one without going to different Publixs!?

  • Barbsfreeforall

Won’t work for me…we didn’t get the frozen food $2 coupon in our papers here…bummer!  Congrats on your great order Melissa!
