Several months ago, my dear friend Maureen stopped by one Sunday afternoon. I was busy in the kitchen organizing my silverware and utensil drawer(s). She hopped right to work with me. We were chatting and organizing when we got to a boatload of toothpicks. Over the years we must have bought toothpicks and just dumped the box into the drawer, you could tell that those would eventually shimmy down to the back of the drawer and a new box would get purchased and placed in the front. There were square picks, and round picks all jumbled up in a big mess, taking up a pretty good amount of space!
So Maureen and I busily found some bins to contain the picks. But they wouldn’t fit in just one…we had to shove them into several. How aggravating? Should I just throw them out? Too busy…just put them away to make the decision on a another day!
Little did I know that the decision would come in a matter of hours.
Maureen left and I was discussing our Pastor’s morning message with my husband. Then we started discussing Jeremiah 31:35-36 “This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar — the Lord Almighty is his name.”
Specifically, we were talking about how God loves order. He has a perfect order in which everything is done. He created the entire world in a particular order and He expects for us to conduct our lives with His order as well. He wants for me to utilize His supernatural power to help my life get in order. What is really neat, is that He cares about the order of even the nitty-gritty, like my laundry and my children’s rooms (and my kitchen drawers). You know, He cares so much, that He asks me to CALL on Him to help me! WOW!
So, I went back to that drawer. I pulled out those bins of toothpicks and I started putting them in order. I simply shook them into a corner of the container and then added them into one single bin. Now they all fit together in one convenient location! And you know what I learned? When I don’t pay attention to God’s ordained order in the little things, how can I think I will entrust Him to the order in the bigger things? He cares about it all!
Now I think it is time to re-visit the medicine cabinet…
Happy Monday!
